On Friday morning, it was revealed that artist and songwriter SZA has been named Woman of the year at this year’s Billboard Women in Music Awards.

SZA is known for big hits such as “Kill Bill”, “Love Galore”, “All the stars” with Kendrick Lamar, and “Kiss me more” with Doja Cat. The latter won the award for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” during last year’s Grammys.

This year’s Billboard awards will take place in Los Angeles on March 1.

– Since she appeared on the scene in 2017, SZA has defied genres and consistently released raw, powerful songs that have landed her music on the Billboard charts, says Billboard’s editor-in-chief Hanna Karp.

– The release of her latest album, “SOS”, has solidified her as a distinct force in modern R&B, sending her into “superstar status”. We look forward to honoring her as Woman of the Year, she concludes.

Mingle among the biggest stars

In previous years, big names such as Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have received the honorable award for Woman of the year.

Last year’s winner was 19-year-old Olivia Rodrigo, whose career skyrocketed after she released her first single “drivers license”, which broke records worldwide.

Other award recipients at this year’s ceremony include Kim Petras for the Chartbreaker Award, following the success with Sam Smith of the song ‘Unholy’.

Lana Del Rey also takes home a prize, for the Visionary Award.
