“There comes a time when you can’t say no”, Ruud van Nistelrooy was quoted as saying a few days ago about a possible transfer from Cody Gakpo. It seems the PSV Eindhoven coach is alluding to his employer’s financial difficulties. The Dutch runner-up is currently not on a bed of roses and can really use every million.
A chance that Manchester United doesn’t seem to want to miss. As the ‘Mirror’ reports, the Red Devils have started talks with Gakpo and are taking the initiative in a poker game for the services of the Dutch World Championship driver.
PSV troubles help United
The chances of a transfer are good due to Eindhoven’s money problems, after all United are in a strong negotiating position. United, who of course got wind of the Gakpo club’s situation, can hope for a fee below the last traded 56 million euros, according to the English tabloid.
But first it is important to convince Gakpo himself, without whose commitment negotiated transfer conditions are superfluous. But since the attacker said he would have liked to change in the summer, it would be surprising if he didn’t let himself be persuaded to transfer to the Premier League giants.
