Telephones of Mexico invested 1,188 million pesos (66.22 million dollars) in the expansion and maintenance of its telecommunications networks during the first quarter of 2023.

The investment for the first quarter of the year meant a decrease of 14.71% compared to the 1,393 million pesos (77.66 million dollars) that the company invested in the same period of 2022.

After the close of March 2023, Telmex league also 15 months with continuous declines in its investment grade to the network deploymentdue to the fact that the company presented investment decreases throughout last year in its comparison with 2021.

Telmex invested a total of 7,174 million pesos (399.68 million dollars) in the year 2022. A year earlier, in 2021, the company had directed 8,324 million pesos (464 million dollars) to the construction of infrastructure.

The year 2020 was a record investment year for Telmex. In that year, the company invested a total of 16,942 million pesos, some 5,000 million still above the combined investment of Izzi Telecom and Megacable Holdings for the same year.

At the mark of the last five years, from 2018 to 2022, Telmex presents a decrease of 36.72% in its accumulated investment.

Meanwhile, its most direct competitors presented, almost all, increases in their investments during the same period. More in detail, Izzi Telecom of Grupo Televisa reduced its investments by 27.7% from 2018 to 2022. Contrastingly, Megacable was located, whose investment grew by 105.75% from 2018 to 2022.

Telmex accuses that the regulatory policy to which it has been subject since 2014 impacts its financial results, mainly in its volume of income and investments.

Despite this, the company indicated that in the first quarter of 2023 it was able, as on few occasions in the last ten years, to increase its revenues by 4.1%, to 24,632 million pesos, thanks to its broadband business for mass consumption and corporate.

The company closed the quarter with 20.1 million subscribers: 10 million 164,000 broadband and 10 million 780,000 fixed voice accesses.

Telmex reported a net loss of 431 million pesos in the first quarter of 2023.
