A design that really manages to stand out

If the Nothing Phone (1) is considered Android’s iPhone, it’s mainly because of its design. Indeed, when you look at it from the front, you can easily be disturbed by the resemblance, especially with thin borders around the screen that are perfectly identical at the top, bottom, left and right. Even on the sides we find the same flat slices with rounded edges, surrounded by an aluminum alloy.

However, Nothing’s very first smartphone completely differentiates itself from the competition with its transparent back. So yes, we see the same position as Apple for the two photo sensors, but everything else is totally different from Apple, and the same on the Android side. For example, you can see some components of the phone through the Gorilla Glass 5 protection, but above all admire the different LEDs that light up depending on use. These can be used as a flash or even adapt to different ringtones when someone calls you. It is even possible to see the battery level when the smartphone is charging.

An excellent technical sheet for the price

As for the overall technical characteristics of the Nothing Phone (1), they are quite good even if everything is obviously not perfect. Its 6.55-inch panel, for example, ticks all the boxes of a good OLED screen with a Full HD + definition of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, but we regret a little brightness weak and a rather disappointing color spectrum coverage compared to the competition. On the photo side, there is a dual 50-megapixel sensor, which offers a pleasing result to the eye, with good management of HDR and portrait mode, a little less for the ultra wide-angle. The glyph can also be useful to vary the lighting and surprise your subject.

It is then powered by a Snapdragon 778G+, a mid-range chip from Qualcomm which delivers really interesting performance in this price bracket. Basically, you can do everything with it, going from a perfectly fluid navigation even with a lot of open applications or to do a little gaming, provided you accept a few minor graphic concessions here or there. As far as battery life goes, the Phone’s 4,500mAh battery (1) can easily keep you going all day with heavy use, but the so-called 33W “fast” charge is a bit slow, plus the charger is not even included in the box.
