Specifically, it was about the fourth episode of the ninth season. Cuoco recounted what happened in it himself: “I was in a scene in the comic book store, wearing a purple sweater and sitting on the couch between Jim and Johnny, while Simon and Kunal with their little band were doing this ridiculous song sang. And I laughed hysterically. For real. And they used this take. It was Entertainment Tonight on set that day and I sat there and I was like, ‘My divorce will be announced shortly.'”
Cuoco’s marriage to Ryan Sweeting ended in divorce for two and a half years in 2016. In the meantime, the series’ credits even included the name “Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting”. However, that was later changed again.
Cuoco continues: “Simon and Kunal made me laugh so much that I the tears down the face were playing when they played that song and I just had to sit and watch them as Penny, but so was myself. And it totally pulled me out of what was going on in my private life right now. And everyone in the cast knew what was going on with me and they were very protective. I only remember the drama that happened behind the scenes, but filming that scene was a really wonderful distraction.”
