The province of british columbiaon the west coast of Canada, has declared a state of emergency this Friday night after forest fires have devastated 10,500 hectares in the last 24 hours.
“We face the worst wildfire season in the history of our province. This unprecedented situation has come to a head tonight,” British Columbia Prime Minister David Eby warned.
“In the last 24 hours the situation has deteriorated quite quickly“, Eby has pointed out, who has reported that some 15,000 people have already had to be evacuated due to the advance of the flames, reports Global News.
The forest fire of McDougall Creek it has already razed more than 10,500 acres and seriously jeopardizes the safety of the inhabitants of the city of West Kelowna. The state of emergency is “to ensure that we have quick access to whatever means we may need to respond to this situation,” Eby explained.
Until Friday night, there were 380 active outbreaks in British Columbia. The blaze, discovered on Tuesday, has been growing at a dizzying rate ever since, with more than 6,000 acres burned in the past 24 hours alone, according to the province’s Forest Fire Service.
