Fancy a no-frills e-bike? Citroën launched its City last year and is already cheaper during the sales: 899 euros at Boulanger, against 1,090 euros usually.
Inevitably better known for its cars, Citroën has nevertheless had a glorious past in the world of bicycles and naturally launched itself into the VAE market last year, with in particular the aptly named “City”. It is an electrically assisted bicycle designed for the city which does not reinvent the wheel, but which has something to appeal to regulars of the brand wanting to get into cycling.
Even if this model is made in China, the tricolor quality has a price, and it is usually found at more than 1,000 euros. Fortunately, a promotion of 200 euros is currently practiced during the winter sales.
What to remember about Citroën’s bike
- A 250W motor;
- Autonomous up to 45 km;
- A luggage rack above the battery;
- Equipment with a chain guard and a stand.

A classic but effective VAE
Equipped with an aluminum frame, the Citroën City does not stand out with an original design, but its solid design and goes everywhere allows it to blend into the decor. Be careful though, it counts on a weight of 29 kg, so plan to be able to store it at home without having to climb the stairs.
With its 28-inch wheels, shocks can easily be absorbed, even if the bike will not be able to counter large potholes either. Overall, circulation is comfortable over time. The rest of the equipment offered completes the needs in town with, in particular, mudguards, a chain guard or even a stand. On the other hand, do not count on complete on-board electronics, the City does not have a GPS tracker, automatic alarm or Bluetooth.
A bike without frills, but which knows how to be efficient
The battery, integrated under the luggage rack, has a capacity of 360 Wh. It will be necessary to count on a range of 45 km. The 250 W motor (the maximum authorized in France) is housed in the hub of the rear wheel and the battery takes place in the luggage rack, which is relatively classic in VAE entry level.
Otherwise, nothing is too bombastic with a six-speed transmission, pad brakes, a fixed fork and a so-called “comfort” saddle to better tackle urban routes.
