According to a recent report by Famitsu was Nintendo again in 2022 measure of all things in Japan. Again were in the Top 10 Best Selling Games of the year almost exclusively titles for Nintendo switch listed. In detail they go Places 1 to 9 to Nintendo’s account. Only Elden Ring for PS4 in tenth place prevented full Nintendo takeover of the top 10.
Pokémon also dominates the charts in Japan
Between the launch and the end of the year lay for Pokémon Crimson & Crimson only a few weeks – nevertheless the title of Game Freak made it to the top position of the games with the best-selling units. The next generation of Pokémon went over the counter more than 4.33 million times. In second place is Splatoon 3 landed with 3.68 million copies. Rounding out the top 3 in Japan are Pokémon Legends: Arceus with more than 2.31 million units.
It’s been 18 years since Nintendo didn’t dominate the annual charts. Last was that 2004 the case. Here has Sony 8 out of 10 ranking positions PS2 games proven. Since then, however, Japan has been Nintendo country again. The situation is similar for hardware sales, by the way. Here, too, the Nintendo platforms (with just one exception) have been at the top for 18 years. the psp briefly snatched the throne in 2010.
Nintendo Switch stays ahead
Unsurprisingly, it has Nintendo switch also managed to sell the most consoles in 2022. In total 4.8 million copies have been implemented. This brings the number of switch consoles – in Japan alone – to over 27.7 million. There are currently around 114.33 million units worldwide. Sony could 1.15 million PS5 consoles to sell. Third place goes to Microsoft with barely 269,737 Xbox Series X/S copies.
