At around 8:00 p.m. on April 29, a serious accident was recorded on federal highway 200 Tepic-Puerto Vallartanear the town of Mesillas, in the municipality of compostelathis after a bus plunged into a ravine.

In the accident, 18 people died and 34 more people were injured, as confirmed Citizen Protection and Firefighters of Nayarit for Infobae Mexico.

According to the reports from the authorities, the elements received a call to the emergency line during the night of April 29, in which they were informed that a tour bus, coming from Guadalajara, Jaliscofell into a ravine at kilometer 60 of the road.

The 42 crew members of the unit were heading to the beach Guayabitos, Compostela where they planned to spend their vacation.

After the report, elements of the police went to the place. State Police and Firefighters of Nayarit, CAPUFE, SICT and the Mexican Red Cross who, jointly, carried out the extraction actions as well as first contact and transfer medical care. In the place it was confirmed that a person was completely pressed by the transport unit.

The injured people were transferred to the municipal seat of compostela for follow-up and specialized care, the authorities reported.

Until 07:00 a.m. on April 30, the highway remained blocked due to the rescue maneuvers that were carried out on the spot. Although the cause of the accident is still unknown, unofficially it has been indicated that the bus ran out of brakes, which would have caused the driver to lose control.

The situation caused the vehicle to end up falling approximately 15 meters towards the bottom of a ravine. As reported by Millennium TV, A mother of the victims announced that she will seek to take legal action against a woman, who was allegedly responsible for organizing the trip and hiring the trucking agency.

In his statements, he argued that the damaged unit was in “terrible” conditions to operate, and despite this, it provided services to tourists.

In the first reports, and via social networks, the preliminary list of injured people was released in order to expedite identification work. Shortly after the Nayarit Attorney General’s Office issued a statement detailing the hospitals to which they were transferred.

It should be noted that the case of Sofia Belen Hernandez, a 9-year-old girl who was injured in the accident and required to be transferred to the emergency room. According to the information shared, the medical care elements had not been able to contact her relatives, in addition, her mother was allegedly admitted to a hospital in the region due to the accident.

It is presumed that after a few hours of sharing her photograph and name on networks, the little girl was identified and family members were already heading to the place where the minor was being cared for.

Also reported was the case of Ofelia Leon Gudino, an elderly woman who was disoriented after the accident, so she did not know how to contact her relatives. Among the information that she was able to provide to the paramedics that her family lives in Santa Anana Pacueco, a town in Guanajuato.

For its part, the State Prosecutor’s Office indicated that work continues so that in the next few hours of this April 30, the identities of the people who unfortunately lost their lives in the incident (7 men and 11 women) can be confirmed. It also notified that the first investigations have already begun with the information provided by the passengers themselves and that collected by the Criminal Investigation Agency.
