On Monday, the rescue service SES Chelsea (State Emergency Service) in Australia received a photo from a worried family, who had noticed something mysterious in one of their beach photos.

SES Chelsea shared the photo on their Facebook profileand now several people are speculating on social media about what is actually in the picture.

Dark shadow in the water

according to News.com.au the Australian family had been on their first beach trip with their child at Carrum Beach in Melbourne on Sunday.

During the trip to the beach, the wife snapped several pictures of her husband with their small child to immortalize the memory.

Only when they got home, and were flipping through their pictures, did they notice something appearing behind them in one of the pictures.

In the picture you can see something dark sticking up from the surface of the sea, just behind the man who is waving, and near the people bathing in the sea.

– I have to admit that when I saw the pictures, I wasn’t sure what it was, writes SES Chelsea on Facebook.

Speculation in social media

The Australian family were also unsure of what was actually hiding at the water’s edge, and feared that it was a shark lurking close around the people. Therefore, they sent the photo to SES Chelsea.

SES Chelsea says that they have contacted a number of places to check whether it could be a shark that is lurking so close to the people, without them noticing anything. But no one can say for sure what it is.

That’s why SES asked Chelsea for help to find out what’s really hidden in the family’s beach photo.

This has led to several people jumping on the discussion in social media.

“It is highly unlikely that a shark swimming in the shallows would not have been seen, and that those in the photo were not aware of it,” writes one on Facebook.

Some also argue that it looks too shallow to be a shark with a fin that size.

“It looks like a small shark, so maybe that’s why no one was attacked,” claims another on social media.

Others also mention that it could be a copperhead shark, a seal or a stingray, as there were no attacks on the humans in the water.

However, one couldn’t resist throwing himself into the discussion with a funny comment:

“It looks like Darth Vader taking a bath. Or a samurai. Hard to say for sure,” jokes one.
