The national government signed the documentation for the Sub 20 World Cup to be held in Argentina. Now, only the official confirmation by FIFA is missing, which is expected to arrive in the next few hours.
The act was held this afternoon at the Ministry of Economy, with the participation of the minister of that portfolio, Sergio Massa, the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, and the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías lammens.
“FIFA has given us a very important opportunity to hold the Under 20 World Cup in the country and host so many young people,” Tapia said during the press conference. And he assured: “This does nothing more than consolidate the project of selections that we have”.
For his part, Massa congratulated the Argentine soccer leadership for “finding the opportunity to carry out an event of this magnitude” that will have a positive impact on “the economy and the country brand.”
“The organization of an event like this not only represents the opportunity for us to have the most important teams in the world competing in a World Cup with what that means, but also because it represents from the economic point of view and from the point of view of the country brand a huge opportunity. The opportunity to show Argentina to the world and its natural beauties,” said Massa after signing the documentation.
It should be remembered that FIFA withdrew the organization of the World Cup from Indonesia after the Asian country refused to allow Israel to participate, with whom it maintains a conflictive diplomatic relationship.
