Freshly aired, episode 2 of The Last of Us contains a reference to the game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, also directed by Neil Druckmann. However, it is very difficult to spot even for seasoned players. The development studio finally sold the wick on Twitter.
The Last of Us is currently being broadcast. The series adapts the eponymous video game by taking some narrative liberties. And to ensure the grain, Neil Druckmann officiates as creator, screenwriter and producer. The game’s director even went behind the camera to direct episode 2, which broke audience records. In the middle of a sequence, Druckmann managed to pay tribute to another of his babies: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Released in 2016, this section once again features adventurer Nathan Drake, who this time teams up with his brother Sam Drake, whom he thought was dead. It is precisely to him that Druckman, scriptwriter and director of the game, wanted to address a wink in The Last of Us. An easter egg so subtle that almost no one paid attention to it when watching the episode. So much so that Naughty Dog resolved to make a tweet where he spills the beans.

When The Last of Us series pays homage to Uncharted
At the end of episode 2 (spoilers alert), we learn that Tess is infected with cordyceps after being bitten at the museum by a clapper. In order to allow Joel and Ellie to flee, she decides to block the way to the horde of infected by blowing up everything. To do this, she uses (not without difficulty) a Zippo type lighter adorned with the inscription 76 and a large star.
“Did Tess’ lighter in The Last of Us episode sound familiar? It is inspired by Sam Drake’s lighter in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”, reveals the development studio. What cause a wave of enthusiasm under the Twitter post, the players being keen on this type of nod. “It’s great, I hadn’t paid attention”, applauds a user. “I hadn’t noticed that omg!!!! So when is Uncharted 6 with Sam Drake coming?”asks another opportunistic user.
