While the second episode of The Last of Us has just been released, the event series is honored by Google. It is now possible to activate an intrusive easter egg that will make fans of the franchise smile.

The Last of Us has the right to its secret on Google

At the start of 2023, all eyes are on the series The Last of Us. Adaptation of the eponymous video game, this one immerses us in an America devastated by a pandemic. Many humans are infected with a fungus that turns them into monsters. This is the dreaded cordyceps that spreads via tendrils in the series. Whereas The Last of Us is already a huge box, Google has taken the time to hide this invasive fungus in its search engine.

Google: how to find The Last of Us easter egg?

Here’s how to activate the easter egg. Just type the query “The Last of Us” in the search engine. It works on both desktop and mobile. Note that during our test, the easter egg was not available with French set as the main language. Set Google to English so you can find out the secret.

Once done, launch your search then go down to the bottom of the page. You will then see a red mushroom. Click on it and your page will be filled with a scary fungal growth. The more you click on the mushroom, the more mushrooms will start to flood the screen until it is completely taken over. Luckily, you can hit the “X” button to get rid of the cordyceps and continue your search.

This is obviously not the first time that the giant has honored flagship pop culture content. Remember in 2019, Google hid easter-eggs from Friends to celebrate the series. More recently, fans of the dark knight had been able to display the Bat-Signal on Google on the occasion of the release of The Batman.
