In his long interview granted to the microphones of IGN.com, Phil Spencer spent a few words on the television series of The Last of US, which has already broken records for HBO. The Xbox leader is no exception to the general reception the show has received, and he especially complimented Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann.
Spencer defined “fantastic” the series produced by HBO and addressed his heartfelt congratulations to Neil Druckmann, creative director of the videogame series as well as author of the show and director of its second episode.
“The fact that the same Neil played a role – obviously in the creation of the game and the franchise – but to see him apply his creative talents in the television space, if that’s what we still call it, I think is pretty awesome. The fact that you take one of the greatest authors in our sector and can you be successful in creating via another medium, i think it really shows that there are some amazing storytellers in the gaming industry, awesome creators of all third parties and first parties. I think it’s a really great time to see the success they’re having with the franchise.”.
Making a comparison with the Halo series produced by Paramount and published in 2022, Spencer said he sees in The Last of Us a product that has set a new standard in the television transpositions of videogame worlds.
“I want the best for everything we work on, including the Halo television series. The Last of Us is out there, to set an incredibly high standard. Should we all aspire to reach the same level with the work we do in television? Absolutely.
I could say the same thing in video games. Every time I play someone’s great game, it inspires us to do the best work we can, to hope that next time we show up, we’ll do it with our best creative, our best ideas, and find people who love to watch, in the case of the TV show Halo, or gaming, in the case of products like Hi-Fi Rush and games coming out this year”.
During the interview, Phil Spencer said he was very confident about the conclusion of the Microsoft-Activision deal.
