Update (01/23/2023) – GS

In September of last year, Sony released a remake for the first The Last of Us, which updated the game’s graphics and introduced the franchise to a new generation of gamers.

Although a part of the community was critical of the decision to release a remake for a game whose original version still looks quite attractive, in addition to the fact that the remake does not change the gameplay or the story, the title ended up showing good sales and being well received by specialized critics.

With the launch of the live-action series based on the game, many decided to enjoy the franchise on PlayStation and the remake recorded high sales.

Nintendo Switch’s Fire Emblem Engage was the best-selling physical game in UK stores last week, but the period was marked by a huge jump in sales of The Last of Us games.

The most recent Fire Emblem sold 31% less than Three Houses, but managed to become the second best release in the franchise in the UK. With the arrival of Engage, FIFA 23 took second place and God of War Ragnarok moved to third place.

The big surprise is the increase in Naughty Dog franchise games. The Last of Us: Part 1 saw a 238% increase in sales for PlayStation 5 and The Last of Us: Remastered for PS4 saw a 322% increase in sales, which saw the games reach #20 and #32 on the bestseller list, respectively.

Check out the full list below:

  1. Fire Emblem Engage
  2. FIFA 23
  3. God of War Ragnarok
  4. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
  5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  6. pokemon violet
  7. nintendo switch sports
  8. Minecraft (Switch)
  9. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  10. pokemon scarlet

We still don’t know how far into the story the first season of the series will adapt, but it’s likely that sales of The Last of Us Part 2 will also see an increase, even more so if the rumor about a remaster of the sequel is confirmed.

According to Cris Dring of Games Industry, the launch of The Last of Us Part I was not strong as imagined, despite the good numbers. It sold almost half of what Saints Row did the previous week.

Even so, it took the lead in sales of physical media despite being released on a single platform, while Saints Row was released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.

In the top ten, we have Horizon Forbidden West in second place and Konami’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection collection in third, surpassing hits like F1 Manager and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. After an 80% drop in sales, Saints Row fell from second to sixth position.
