The week started yesterday with force for the PP that is crossing out from the list of ‘pending’ issues such as the appointment of the heads of the list to Congress, a task that is not always pleasant due to that of discards or impositions, as has been fully realized this weekend the PSOE with its candidacies.

But since playing on the winning horse (according to the first surveys) is always easier, the PP made public yesterday -without adverse reactions- the list of its heads of list to the Lower House, a selection in which they wanted to include “people who have a long political and legislative career and proven experience in public and private management, with people who have been part of the party structures and have done a magnificent job during the legislature”, according to party sources.

The result in Castilla y León has been a number one list for Congress renewed at 60 percent (75% nationally), since five of them are released in this representative body, while the other four come from previous legislatures. They are candidates with experience in different administrations that, in some cases, also respond to the need of the PP to settle debts for past sacrifices.

no matter the place

The two conditions occur in one of the novelties, the head of the list for Burgos, Ángel Ibáñez, who takes the witness that Sandra Moneo carried in the 2019 elections. Current deputy spokesperson in the Cortes of Castilla y León and responsible for the last electoral campaign, he was the counselor affected in the spring of 2022 to form the coalition government of the Community between PP and Vox. Ibáñez, who will have to leave his seat in the regional Parliament, yesterday showed his gratitude for an appointment that he justified in that “I do not understand politics if it is not being useful to the people of my land no matter where it is from.”

Another novelty and, partly surprise, is the number one for Valladolid, Mercedes Cantalapiedra, senator in the legislature that concludes and second in the candidacy of the PP headed by Jesús Julio Carnero to the City Council. Yesterday he presented the documentation in the consistory to receive the act of councilor next Saturday and does not rule out the possibility of assuming the management of a council -he was mayor of Culture with Javier León de la Riva-, although we will have to wait for the pact with Vox to materialize.

Cantalapiedra is, in this way, the person who accumulates the most power in the PP of Valladolid, in which she is general secretary and shortly national deputy and councillor. The proximity of her to two strong men of the formation, Ángel González (Secretary of Organization) and Miguel Tellado (Deputy Secretary) has something to do with it.

Also new to these fights is Héctor Palencia, who will head the list for Ávila, in whose town hall he was a councillor. The current chief of staff of the president of the Junta, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco (a position that he will have to leave), occupies the position of Alicia García, who was a candidate for the City Council on 28M and who will become the head of the opposition and, perhaps, a candidate to the Senate.

In Leon. The list to the Congress starts with Ester Muñoz, territorial delegate of the Junta -she will leave the post this week- and provincial president of the party. In 2019, the resigned José Miguel González led the relationship. Segovia’s list starts with Pablo Pérez, current spokesman in the City Council and until now a senator, who takes the baton from Beatriz Escudero. His designation is interpreted as the prize for the opposition work carried out in the last four years in the consistory, since he was not designated a candidate for Mayor.

They repeat as number one Milagros Marcos, in Palencia, who made the leap to Congress in 2019 after having been Minister of Agriculture and Family in Castilla y León; the historic José Antonio Bermúdez de Castro, in Salamanca; for Soria, Tomás Cabezón, and for Zamora, Elvira Velasco.
