Chicago (USA), Apr 8 (EFE).- The heavy rain that falls in Charleston forced the interruption of the semifinal between Jessica Pegula and the Swiss Belinda Bencic, who must finish their match this Sunday and then play the final against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who beat the Russian Daria Kasatkina hours before.

Pegula was winning 4-2 in the tiebreaker of the second set, after losing the first 7-5, when the intensity of the rain forced the interruption of the match, at the moment of its maximum tension.

A few minutes later, the WTA reported that the game would not resume this Saturday, but the match should end this Sunday.

“After the necessary rest”, the winner of that semifinal will face Jabeur in the final.

The Tunisian is already waiting for a rival, after beating Kasatkina by a double 7-5, in a match that also had to be interrupted by rain.

Jabeur came back from 1-4 down in the first set, before taking it 7-5 without dropping serve again. He started the second set in the same way, losing his serve, but again managed to recover the break and seal his ticket to the final in an hour and 49 minutes of the game.

It was the Tunisian’s fifth win in seven games under Kasatkina, a player who had 19 career wins against players in the world’s top 10.

Jabeur, who had already beaten Kasatkina in the Rome 2022 semifinal, achieved his first win of the year against a ‘top-10’ rival.
