ANDunited states and Ukraine started today a process of talks to reach new bilateral security agreements, said in a statement the Department of State US.

The negotiations, which aim to ensure that the country “has a sustainable force capable of defending Ukraine now and to deter Russia in the future’, follow the agreement reached last month between kyiv and the countries of the G7 to increase military cooperation through bilateral engagements.

Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenskythen referred to the agreement, announced during the G7 summit in Vilnius, as a bridge towards a future entry of the country into the NATO.

In its message this Thursday, the US State Department assured that its security commitments to Ukraine will allow the country to “advance the reforms that will support the good governance necessary to advance its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.”

Specifically, and according to the text of the declaration of Vilnius last month, the signatory countries will be able to help Kiev in different ways: with the delivery of weapons and training for the Ukrainian armed forces, to collaboration on cybersecurity issues, exchange of intelligence information or by taking measures to increase the weapons production in the country.
