The US warns that the mercenaries of the Wagner Group are "reintegrating" in the Russian Army

MADRID, July 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United States Department of Defense has warned this Thursday that the mercenaries of the Wagner Group are “reintegrating” into the Russian Army after Moscow ordered the withdrawal of the paramilitaries to Belarus in response to an attempted rebellion at the end of June. .

“We have seen reports that the troops of the Wagner Group continue to move towards that region (Belarus) and I think they continue to consolidate there,” added the deputy spokeswoman for the US Department of Defense, Sabrina Singh, at a press conference from Washington.

These statements by Singh come just a week after the Pentagon spokesman, General Patrick Ryder, assured that the US authorities had no reports that the mercenaries were participating in “any significant activity” in support of Russia in the war in Ukraine.

The Wagner Group, led by Yevgeni Prigozhin, staged an attempted rebellion against Russia at the end of June, finally breaking a tense relationship with Moscow on account of the planning and decisions of the Russian military leadership regarding the invasion of Ukraine.

The intervention then by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, was crucial in putting down the attempted rebellion. Minsk offered mercenaries lodging on Belarusian territory and has even allowed paramilitaries to instruct the National Army in combat training.
