NATO’s secretary general insists the conflict in Ukraine is “a war of attrition”, but it has not reached a stalemate, according to Sky News.

However, Kiev urgently needs new air defense supplies, including ammunition, spare parts and maintenance for systems that the Ukrainian military already has, Jens Stoltenberg told reporters in New York.

“We see air defense saving lives every day in Ukraine,” he said.

He cited recent Ukrainian gains in his counteroffensive as evidence that a stalemate had not been reached – and urged the West to continue military, humanitarian and financial aid to the country.

“If we want to end the war, if we want a just and lasting peace, then military support to Ukraine is the right way,” Stoltenberg said.

“We are ready for a long-term action. Not because we are able to predict exactly how long this war will last, but because we need to send a message that President Putin cannot wait for us,” he added.
