Before him disaster caused in Turkey and Syria by the 7.8 earthquake and its more than 50 aftershocks, Mexican authorities made a call to donate food and clothing to send humanitarian aid to the thousands of victims.

The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC), in coordination with the Government of Mexico City, invited them to take the donations to the capital’s Zócalo where a collector camp will be set up starting this Tuesday.

The affected area in Turkey lives a harsh winter that has left the victims exposed to low temperatures and extreme cold.

The donation of the following supplies is requested:

  • Thermal clothing
  • Flashlights, with batteries included or rechargeable
  • Power bank batteries
  • Toilet paper
  • Diapers (adult and baby)

  • Baby wipes
  • Bath soap
  • liquid laundry soap
  • Cloth towels for bathroom
  • baby bottles
  • Canned Baby Cereals
  • powdered baby milk
  • Baby food
  • Food box (pantry) in a rigid box, with resistant food, canned.

Example: Rice, wheat flour, oats, powdered milk, boxed cookies, canned or Tetra Pak tomato puree, oil, canned tuna, pasta, soups in quick and easy preparation bags, canned creams, canned vegetables, corn canned.

The CNPC called for donations to be of new andn original packaging for better transfer and description of the input, in order to facilitate translation and use.

The tremor was felt at 04:17 (01:17 GMT) and occurred at a depth of 17.9 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter was located in the district of Pazarcik, in the south-east of Turkey, about 60 km from the Syrian border.

At the moment the number of victims already exceeds 3,800, in addition to thousands of wounded and missing.

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, declared seven days of mourning for the victims. “Our flag will be flown at half mast until sundown on Sunday,” he said in a tweet.

His management of this tragedy will have a lot of weight in the May 14 elections.

Due to the time the earthquake occurred, at dawn, most people were sleeping.
