A millionaire robbery was perpetrated yesterday in a Villa Elisa location that was accessed after making a hole in the wall. According to police sources told this newspaper, the situation was discovered by the owner of the property who, on a tour, noticed that there was a hole in the wall.
He immediately notified the merchant who rented it and after a few hours the worst suspicions were confirmed: the safe had been broken into and a wad of dollars corresponding to a recent business had been extracted.
The victim turned out to be a travel agent whose agency is located at 419 between 18 and 21A. This businessman never imagined that he would end up being the victim of a robbery planned in detail, like the ones that are told in the movies. Maybe that’s why he had the security of leaving his savings there.
The sources consulted indicated that there is practically no doubt that it was a coldly calculated blow. This is clear from the steps that the band took to access the premises without raising the slightest suspicion.
The first thing they did was completely cut off the power supply. The objective of this step was to empty the batteries of the cameras and movement sensors of the installed security system.
Everything indicates that this maneuver could have been carried out on Thursday night since the batteries have an autonomy that does not exceed 48 hours.
Once this stage was completed, they began to open the hole in one of the sides. There are also high degrees of certainty about this aspect, since they operated at night. “No one in the area saw any strange situation. It is seen that they worked with the utmost secrecy and with darkness as an ally,” they explained.
Once they had access to the store, the work began to open a safe that, according to reports, had double insurance: key and password.
None of this was a stumbling block for the thugs who, with a mixture of brute force and expertise, removed the cover.
The situation must have been confirmed by a relative of the victim. It is that at the time of the robbery the victim was thousands of kilometers from La Plata. “The fact that the owner would be traveling is another indication that confirms that the thieves made each decision with privileged information,” said an investigator.
The concrete thing is that, when opening the premises for the police to carry out the proceedings, the relative found the office in a mess, the security system and the safe empty.
It turned out that they did not take any other valuables. They only limited themselves to taking a wad of 15 thousand dollars, whose sum in national currency amounts to 6 million pesos, taking the value of the dollar that is traded in the so-called informal market, and they left the scene.
