The Spanish Minister of Equality Irene Montero has declared this Sunday that the kiss that the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, gave to the player Jennifer Hermoso in the celebration of the World Cup that the Iberians won versus england It can be classified as sexual violence.
During the presentation of the medals to the Spanish champions, the moment came when Rubiales met Hermoso and without saying a word he took her by the face and kissed her on the mouth, in an action that quickly went viral on social networks and that led to criticism from Montero herself.
“Let’s not assume that kissing without consent is a ‘happening.’ It is a form of sexual violence that women suffer on a daily basis and until now invisible, and that we cannot normalize“said the official.
He also said that everything must be done from the work of consent, where there is no obligation to any action.
“Ending this is the task of the entire society. Consent in the center. Only yes is yes,” Montero added to his post on social media.
Ione Belarra, acting Minister of Social Rights, has also criticized Rubiales and has argued on the same network: “What we all think, if they do that with all of Spain watching, what will they not do in private. Sexual violence against women has to end. A hug to the Champions”.
Finally the very protagonist of the event, the player Hermoso, said that it was all part of a feeling of gratitude and asked that she not be given more back .
