Two people were found dead in the rubble during the night. Eight residents are believed to be missing.

The search for the alleged victims continues. “As long as there is hope of finding people alive, we will not stop,” said Marseille Mayor Benoit Payan. However, he had previously admitted that the hope of finding people alive under the rubble was infinitesimal. The rescue work was difficult because a fire broke out under the rubble after the collapse.

More than 30 houses evacuated

During the night of yesterday, a four-story house collapsed on Rue Tivoli in Marseille’s fifth arrondissement. Parts of the two neighboring houses were also torn down. A few hours later, one of the houses next to it collapsed. The reason for the collapse was probably an explosion. Five people from neighboring buildings were injured in the accident. More than 30 houses in the southern French city were evacuated to be on the safe side.
