The Mayor of Lustenau, Kurt Fischer, and the regional councilors, Tittler and Zadra, had visitors from Vienna today: Environment and Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewesslers presented her S18 evaluation.

The provincial councilors Marco Tittler and Daniel Zadra as well as Lustenau’s mayor Kurt Fischer received a ministerial visit from Vienna today. Ministry of Infrastructure and Climate Protection Leonore Gewessler brought the final report of the S18 evaluation with him.

The minister brought a new variant for the much-discussed S18. The new variant “Lustenau Süd” is to be pursued further.
A working group has come to the conclusion that the “Lustenau Süd” variant brings traffic advantages and also performs better in terms of climate protection.

Update: New variant is a “dead end” for LH Markus Wallner

Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) described the new variant in an interview with the APA as a “dead end”. The connection point in St. Margrethen cannot be changed and is legally fixed in Switzerland. “You could have clarified that with a phone call,” Wallner said. “Lustenau Süd” has no connection point in Switzerland “nor in Vorarlberg”, because the Dornbirn-Süd motorway junction is not suitable for this. With regard to nature conservation or the risk of approval, this new variant does not bring any advantages either. “It’s not an alternative,” Wallner said firmly. If the ministry wanted to investigate further, he could not prevent it, but every euro invested was one too many.

Update II.: “More questions than answers”

“For us it is important that the proceedings for the CP variant continue. The minister has also assured that,” says LH Markus Wallner in the VOL.AT interview. According to Wallner, the whole thing raises more questions than answers and accuses Gewessler of not holding any talks with those responsible in Switzerland. In contrast to the CP variant, the new variant has been tested. “There’s nothing with the new variant. You don’t have a connection in Switzerland and you come out in the nature reserve. That’s ‘low-class’. And the connection here, in Dornbirn, was only approved on the condition that we not allow truck transit traffic to Switzerland there. This means that the junction in Vorarlberg is also not possible for this variant,” concludes Wallner.
