HLS, FW and EWF Dornbirn had invited to the open day.

Dornbirn. There was a full house on Friday in the school building of the technical school for economic professions in Haselstauden, which also houses the new Higher School of Social Management (HLS). The different types of school introduced themselves with presentations, hands-on stations, film screenings, language cafés, creative workshops and much more. The students led through the school and gave an insight into their everyday school life, presented their school internships and presented the Baby Fit course.

Practice-oriented training

Many interested young people and their families take the opportunity to find out more on site and to exchange ideas in the café run by the students. There was great interest in the five-year HLS branch, which was launched a year and a half ago. In addition to a well-founded general education, the focus of training here is on social and project management, communication and teamwork, biology, health and nutrition as well as foreign language skills in English and Spanish. Basic cooking skills are also taught. One of the special features is the practical relevance in social and economic areas with block internships, two mandatory internships and project weeks. “Our everyday school life is very practice-oriented and that’s the great thing about it. I’m really looking forward to the first internship in the summer,” confirms Barbara Bereuter, from the II HLS class. The proximity to practice is to be further intensified in the future. “We recently entered into a mentoring cooperation with Caritas. Further partnerships are being planned,” says Director Dagmar Waibel-Mätzler.

The two other branches of school are also practice-oriented – the three-year technical school for business professions (FW) and the one-year business school (EWF).

With the forthcoming renovation of the main building, the school is approaching a forward-looking milestone. All rooms are being gradually renovated – starting in February 2023 with the wing that currently houses the kindergarten. The new building on Haselstauderstraße is also in the starting blocks. A new gymnasium is being built here for shared use with the Haselstauden elementary school. Two canteen kitchens and a multifunctional room will also be available in the new building.
