For Sergio Ramos, the long chapter of the Spanish national team is over. As the star central defender from Paris St. Germain announced on his social media channels, he will no longer play for the Selección in the future. This was preceded by a phone call with the new national coach Luis de la Fuente, who wants to rely on other players in the future.

“This morning I got a call from the current coach telling me that no matter what level I can show or how I continue my sporting career, he will not count on me anymore”writes Ramos, “Unfortunately, this is the end of a journey that I had hoped would be longer and end on a nicer note.”

“I am firmly convinced”the 36-year-old continues his reckoning with de la Fuente, “That this career should be ended because of a personal decision or because my performance has not been up to what our national team deserves – but not because of my age or any other reason I suspect.
