Storm Otto is expected to move in over the west coast during Friday afternoon. SMHI has issued an orange warning for Friday night and Saturday night.

Due to safety reasons, the Swedish Transport Administration is canceling several train lines starting at 16:00 on Friday afternoon. The railways where the traffic is not closed may still have to run at greatly reduced speeds. More lanes may also need to be closed.

“Blow up big”

Västrafik urges travelers to keep up-to-date on developments.

– If you are going to travel, check in advance so that you know that the trip will be cancelled. You should be aware that it will blow up considerably and increase towards the evening and night. If you can avoid traveling, you should do it, says Mette Ramquist, press manager for Västtrafik.

Västtrafik’s disruption management is looking at how many buses they can bring in to replace the train service. Mette Ramquist says that they are trying to replace as many lines as possible.

– At the moment, we do not have any more upcoming canceled tours, but we follow the weather and take it as we go, she says.

Urges motorists

The Swedish Transport Administration urges motorists not to take to the roads unnecessarily, as the storm may cause obstacles on the road. According to the Swedish Transport Administration, bridges in the area may also be closed at short notice, for example the Uddevalla Bridge and the Älvsborg Bridge.
