In Dublin, the childhood home of a famous poet is open for tours. Things are moving faster for vacationers in San Francisco. There is also news from the Fichtelgebirge and from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

Insights into Oscar Wilde’s childhood in Dublin

Dublin – Oscar Wilde’s childhood home in Dublin has reopened and offers a glimpse into the famous writer’s childhood. According to Tourism Ireland, house number 1 on Merrion Square in the center of the Irish capital was Dublin’s cultural epicenter from 1855 onwards, thanks to Wilde’s parents, William and Jane Wilde. It reopened in the new year after renovations. A college is housed in the building.

During the study periods in the winter half-year, visitors can therefore only visit it on weekends as part of a guided tour. It takes 90 minutes and costs 18 euros. Appointments are under “oscarwildehouse.com“ bookable. According to the website, you can visit the house from the end of April to the beginning of September without prior notice.

Get around San Francisco faster with the new subway

San Francisco – A new subway line also makes it easier for vacationers to get around in San Francisco. The Central Subway, which costs almost two billion US dollars, runs from north to south through the center of the Californian city and connects China Town with the Union Square interchange station, as the San Francisco Travel Association reports.

So far, only buses have run directly between the districts. Advantage for holidaymakers: The new subway should save them around 20 minutes travel time between the popular districts of Downtown and Mission Bay.

New gondola lifts in the Fichtelgebirge

Bischofsgrün – On the Ochsenkopf in the Fichtelgebirge, two new gondola lifts are to take you to the summit. According to the Bayreuth district office, the new northern runway should go into operation at the start of the 2023/24 winter season. The new southern runway will therefore be built from spring 2024 – and should then be ready the following winter.

The gondola lifts are to replace the aging chairlifts that currently lead to the summit at an altitude of 1024 meters. Like the old facilities, the new lifts will run all year round and thus also bring holidaymakers to the Ochsenkopf in summer.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises relaxes corona rules

Hamburg – Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will relax the corona rules from May 2023. Like the luxury shipping company in the Travel Advice writes on its website, proof of vaccination protection or negative corona test results will no longer be required from then on, provided that the shipping areas of the ships allow it – i.e. there are no deviating official requirements in the countries visited.
