The Turkish culture and business fair in Dornbirn runs until Monday. VOL.AT stopped by and spoke to the organizer.

It is the largest event in Austria organized by people with a migrant background and one of the most famous fairs in all of Europe: The 16th Turkish Culture and Entrepreneur Fair (Turkish: Avusturya Culture & Girişimcileri Fuarı) in Dornbirn. On Thursday, the fair opened its doors to all interested parties.

With free entry you can get to know Turkish culture until Monday, May 1st. There is everything to discover on 10,500 square meters in the exhibition district: book publishers, artists and entrepreneurs from all sectors are represented. You can also try culinary delicacies from the Turkish kitchen. There is also a colorful children’s corner with bouncy castles and mini train as well as a children’s program.

Earthquake as a focus – Landesrat Gantner is also coming

The focus this year was on earthquakes. “Due to the two major earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, we canceled all concerts and music events,” explains Abdi Tasdögen, spokesman for the organizer, the Austrian Islamic Federation, in the VOL.AT interview. There are various charity events for the earthquake victims in Turkey on the stage.” The Hasene Aid and Social Association is also represented with a large stand. On Saturday at 6:30 p.m. there will also be an earthquake charity event at the fair In addition to the chairman of the Islamic Society, there will also be provincial councilor Christian Gantner and representatives of the search and rescue unit SARUV Austria.

Turkey election is a minor matter

According to the organizer, the upcoming elections in Turkey are not an issue at the fair. “There have also been elections in the past,” Tasdögen explained to VOL.AT. “We have always stayed away from politics.” It is a fair for the whole family. The focus is on the earthquake disaster. Even if the elections for Turks abroad have started, that doesn’t mean that advertising will be done at the fair. People get information about the elections from various channels, and Tasdögen emphasizes that it is not an issue at the fair.

The Turkish Culture and Entrepreneur Fair will take place until May 1st, 2023 in the exhibition center in Dornbirn. Admission is free. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., only on Mondays it closes a little earlier.
