Ukraine makes major gains in Bakhmut and blocks Russian troops inside the city

Ukrainian forces have made significant progress around the bakhmut city by managing to recover the high positions around the city, and they have managed to interrupt the movements of the Russian troops by attacking the flanks of the urban fabric.

As explained by the Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Maliar in statements to Guardianthe Russian troops no longer have the ability to move around Bakhmut and have been trapped in the urban center of the town.

Bakhmut has become a priority target of the Ukrainian counteroffensive and tries to regain control of the city occupied by Russian forces in a battle that lasts for months.

With Ukrainian troops rapidly advancing on the outskirts of Bakhmut, Russia tries to force Ukraine to divert its troops by attacking on the Kharkov region.

The situation in Kupiansk and Lyman it is complicated for kyiv, a situation that Maliar called a “nightmare”.

Maliar pointed to Guardian that “while the main focus of the Ukrainian Army is the south, the Russians are concentrated in the east. The Russians are infiltrating mainly in two areas: Kupiansk and Lyman. It’s a nightmare what happens there.”

Last Thursday, the Ukrainian authorities ordered the mandatory evacuation of the civilian population in 37 towns in the Kupiansk area.

In a communiqué from the local authorities it is stated that “given the difficult security situation and the increasing amount of bombardments by Russian terrorist forces in the Kupiansk areait is ordered to evacuate to a safer place ».

For this reason, “to keep our Bakhmut forces, the Russians are advancing in other directions, to force us to launch our forces to save the territory. That is why they are launching an offensive elsewhere, to stop our attack on Bakhmut.”
