Vacations: States with the best and worst summer road trips in the US

With road travelers in mind, WalletHub compared all 50 US states across 32 key metrics to find the most fun, scenic and affordable road trip destinations. The data set ranges from the number of attractions to road conditions and costs.

Summer is the perfect time to hit the road: School is out, the weather is warm and the possibilities are endless. Now that the Covid-19 pandemic is all but behind us, Americans are eager to travel,” the WalletHub report says.

According to data from the finance site, this summer nearly 80% of American adults plan to take some kind of road trip, and about 39% plan to travel more than 250 miles from home.

Deciding to take a trip is the easy partbut choosing a destination and affording everything you want to include in your itinerary is more difficult.

Gasoline prices may be a cause for concern, as they have remained high this year, with a national average of more than $3.50 a gallon now. On top of that, you have to consider accommodation, activities and food, all of which are affected by high inflation.

Other aspects that were evaluated in the WalletHub study were:
