Vivo Mobile Communications Co. just presented its new line of foldable cell phones for 2023. In addition to the new generation of the well-known X Fold series, the company inaugurated its family of models in a more compact format with the Vivo X Flip.
Vivo X Flip has a large external screen
Vivo Mobile’s first flip phone arrived with a 3-inch external screen — larger than the 1.9-inch panel of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, but smaller than expected for the next generation of Samsung’s model .
In the internal section, the device has a 6.74-inch display, similar in size to Samsung’s rival. This panel features OLED technology, Full HD + resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and maximum brightness of 1,200 nits.
Durability was also an aspect addressed by the Chinese company, with a hinge capable of performing 500,000 activations without showing any defects. It is also possible to use the device in intermediate folding positions, as well as Samsung’s Flex Mode.
Inside, the device features a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, once again matching Samsung’s rival. However, it still has up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The Vivo X Flip camera set stands out for bringing components signed by Zeiss. It has a 50 MP main sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), in addition to the 12 MP ultrawide and 32 MP front.
The construction of the device houses a 4,400 mAh battery, a capacity greater than the 3,700 mAh of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. There is support for 44 W cable recharges, but the smartphone does not support wireless charging or IPX8 certification against water damage.
Vivo X Fold 2
The main novelty of Vivo Mobile’s new folding book in relation to the X Fold Plus presented last year is in the processing set. The new smartphone comes with an updated Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, in addition to offering 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The construction of the device has also been improved, with a reduction of 33 grams in weight and 2 millimeters in thickness. With that, the official measures go to 278 grams and 12.9 millimeters, respectively.
However, the pair of screens presents already known characteristics. The internal AMOLED display comes with 8.03 inches and a resolution of 2,160 x 1,916 pixels, as well as supporting 120 Hz refresh rate.
On the outside, the device maintains a 6.53-inch AMOLED panel, with Full HD resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels and the same support for 120 Hz.
Also developed in partnership with Zeiss, the camera set is led by a 50 MP sensor. There is also a 12 MP wide angle and 12 MP telephoto, in addition to the front with 16 MP.
The contents captured by the device must still have a more refined processing, through the V2 chip developed by Vivo.
Vivo X Fold 2 battery has a capacity of 4,800 mAh, similar to Vivo X Fold Plus. Fast charging of 120W wired and 50W on compatible wireless cradles is supported.
price and availability
The devices were presented to the Chinese market, still without forecast of launch in other countries. The official price of Vivo X Flip starts at 5,999 yuan (~R$ 4,405 in direct conversion), while Vivo X Fold 2 starts at 8,999 yuan (~R$ 6,608).
