Besiktas officials don’t want to know about Wout Weghorst’s upcoming move to Manchester United. Sporting director Ceyhun Kazanci told ‘Fanatik’ (quoted via ‘Voetbal International’) after yesterday’s 2-1 win against Kasimpasa, in which the Dutchman seemed to be saying goodbye to the fans after scoring a goal: “I don’t know what he means by that. He’s our player and his contract doesn’t expire until the end of the season.”
And further: “If Manchester United or any other team want him then they need to talk to Burnley first. Burnley will then contact us to discuss a possible split. Only if we accept that will the loan agreement be terminated. If not, he’s not going anywhere until the end of the season.” Weghorst is on loan to Besiktas from Burnley FC until the end of the season. According to information from FT-affiliate site Foot Mercato he is about to move to Manchester United. Besiktas is apparently still haggling over financial compensation.
