MIAMI.- This Saturday, May 4, Free Comic Book Day is celebrated in the United States and different countries around the world, one of the favorite days of comic book lovers of all ages.
Who didn’t read a comic as a child or during their youth? This is one of the favorite pastimes of many superhero fans, including Batman, Superman, Spiderman, the Guardians of the Galaxy and many others.
This popular event, held every year on the first Saturday in May, seeks to encourage reading comics in new generations and connect with old and new fans around the world.
During this day, participating specialized bookstores, among other initiatives, give away copies expressly published by the publishers, to anyone who enters their establishments.
Promotions are given away on titles sold by participating companies such as Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image, Dark Horse, IDW and Boom Studios, among others. Some of the magazines that will be available this year are: Superman: Last son of Krypton, Bongo, Worlds of Aspen, Infinity, Judge Dredd Classics, Hulk and the Agents of SMASH and DC Nation Super Sampler: Batman, among others.

This celebration originated in 2002 in California, as an initiative of the great fan of these fun reads, Joe Field, owner of the independent comics store Flying Colors Comics in Concor.
Field collaborated as a columnist in the professional specialized magazine “Comics & Games Retailer”, in which he explained the need to establish a day on the calendar to promote visits to comic book stores by offering a free comic as a treat, just as a ice cream chain near your bookstore.
This event, which began within the framework of the Spider Man movie that year, has the participation of one and a half million attendees each year, who go to more than 2,400 specialized comic book stores, located in 65 countries around the world.
Little by little, it became relevant as a reference for other countries in the world that have joined this great celebration, among which are Spain, where it arrived for the first time in 2010, Peru, which joined in 2011, and the Dominican Republic in 2021.

Fans can go to bookstores and comic book stores that host various activities and events during this day, such as signing sessions and giving away comic books.
In addition, you can join friends or family fans to enjoy a good comic book read or join an online book club to celebrate this day. Or give a comic to anyone you meet in one of the stores that participate in this festival.
