Russell Crowe has confirmed not to participate in the new film de Gladiator 2, the sequel to the famous 2000 hit film in which he played the protagonist Massimo Decimo Meridio. Although the latter is an important figure in the plot of the new film, there are no plans to bring the character back to life and therefore involve the actor. However, Russell Crowe said he is in contact with director Ridley Scott and is aware of the progress and the plot of the sequel, which will star Paul Mescal.
Gladiator 2 without Russell Crowe
Gladiator 2 promises to be an exciting sequel to the original 2000 film. The new film will star Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Lucilla, played by Connie Nielsen. Lucius grew up admiring Massimo Decimo Meridio, the iconic character played by Russell Crowe, who saved him and his mother during the events of the first film. Therefore, Lucius grew up with the idea of becoming a strong and courageous warrior, so he too will face personal obstacles and epic challenges, intent on fighting for justice and honor.
Unfortunately, Maximus Decimus Meridio will not be part of the new adventure as he died heroically at the end of the first Gladiator, but not before carrying out his revenge against Commodus (played by Joaquin Phoenix), the son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius and the main antagonist of the first movie. The new film promises to be an exciting journey through the ancient world, where violence and passion reign supreme. There will be epic clashes with swords and shields, arena battles and intriguing political intrigues.
With casting seemingly underway, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear some of the details about the film coming together pretty quickly over the next few weeks. Scott will produce the film, along with Scott Free president Michael Pruss, and Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment. Also returning from the original film are Janty Yates (Costume Designer) and Arthur Max (Production Designer).

Second what is reported, Russle Crowe said he was updated on what the new production of the franchise is putting in place for all fans. Here are some excerpts of his words regarding his relationship with Ridley Scott:
Yeah, we had dinner and talked about it and all that stuff. So I know pretty much how it’s shaping the story. But yeah, if you recall, there was a little boy who wanted to beat Gladiator, which leads to the ‘My name is’ speech. So that little boy has grown up and is now the Emperor. I don’t know what else happens at that point, so that’s the idea. So it’s not a remake. And it’s not a direct sequel. It’s not like the day after, you know, 30 years later or something.
The production of the new film
The new film is therefore taking shape and we expect to know more about the plot and the cast in a short time. The director of the original film, Ridley Scott, will return to produce along with Michael Pruss, president of Scott Free, and Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment. Additionally, some of the original team from the 2000 film, including costume designer Janty Yates and production designer Arthur Max, will return for this exciting sequel. We expect that this new chapter of the gladiatorial saga will offer us another epic and action-packed adventure.
