Plots with forbidden romances usually conquer the public right away, as they instigate mystery and awaken desire through spicy and intriguing scenes. Proof of this are the countless films and series that address the theme, such as Carol e my policeman.

In addition to them, the theme can also be present in lighter and teen series, as in Heartstoppera Netflix production inspired by the comic of the same name that shows the most popular boy in school, Nick Nelson, discovering a crush on the nerdy Charlie.

5. Conversation Between Friends

Based on the novel of the same name by Sally Rooney, this Netflix series follows the story of Frances, a 21-year-old student who lives in Dublin and in her free time presents some of her poems along with Bobbi, her ex-girlfriend and current best friend.

The two get along well, although Bobbi still harbors a certain feeling for Frances. One day, however, they meet Melissa, a famous photographer who approaches to offer them a shoot.

Shortly after they meet Nick, Melissa’s husband. Thus, the four enter into a dangerous dynamic of friendship and love, in which Frances and Nick embark on a secret extramarital relationship and Melissa and Bobbi end up exchanging a few kisses.

4. Marked Heart

Released in 2022, the drama Marked Heart it also tells a story of forbidden love. In the plot we follow Camila, a kind young woman who has a rare heart condition and needs to get an urgent transplant if she wants to survive. Engaged to the ambitious Zacarías, she is always counting the days until she has the surgery.

It turns out that without her knowing, Zacarías hires a group of organ traffickers who murder the young Valeria to steal her heart. The girl in question was Simón’s wife, a man who, so disillusioned, decides to start a relentless quest for revenge.

What no one predicted, however, was that Camila and Simón would end up falling in love and embarking on a forbidden and complicated romance that will defy Zacarías’ fury.

Call of Pálpito, in the original title, the series is a Colombian production that stars Michel Brown, Ana Lucía Domínguez, Sebastián Martínez, among others. The first season is complete on Netflix.

3. Sex/Life

Another Netflix series that talks about forbidden romance is Sex/Lifea soft porn production that abuses eroticism and nudity scenes to tell the story of Billie, a married woman with two children, who lives with her husband Cooper in the suburbs of the United States.

Leading a calm and peaceful life, Billie lives divided only between psychology classes in college and taking care of her family. It turns out that the memory of the times she lived with Brad, her ex-boyfriend never left her head.

Some time later she meets the boy again and finds herself confused, not knowing whether to keep her marriage stable or to embark on a journey of sex and pleasure with her ex-spouse again.

2. Dangerous Liaisons

Showing that Brazil also knows how to make forbidden romance series, this production based on the French book The Dangerous Liaisonsby author Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, tells the story of a group of people whose lives are intertwined due to jealousy, envy and betrayal.

In the plot, Isabel discovers that Cecília — her cousin’s daughter — has become engaged to Heitor, her former lover. Dissatisfied with this situation, she asks her friend Augusto to seduce and dishonor her before the wedding. It turns out that the romance between the two is getting more and more complicated and involving more family members.

Adapted for television by Manuela Dias and director Vinícius Coimbra, Dangerous Liaisons featured Selton Mello and Patrícia Pillar as the protagonists. From one national production to another, we arrived at Happy forever?, a series of ten episodes, launched in 2015 by Rede Globo. In the plot, we are introduced to five different couples, within the same family, who over time begin to question their relationships, the eternal happiness they say exists and also living forbidden romances.

Marília (Maria Fernanda Cândido) is married to Cláudio (Enrique Díaz), but lives a lukewarm relationship after their son died. To save their marriage, they go to therapy, and decide to have a threesome. For that, they hire Danny Bond (Paolla Oliveira), a call girl who hides her profession from her girlfriend.

On the other side, there is Hugo (João Miguel) — Cláudio’s brother — who has a stable marriage with Tânia (Adriana Esteves), but discovers that he is sterile. From then on, he begins to suspect the paternity of his son. The other brother, Joel (João Baldasserini), in turn, constantly pursues his ex-girlfriend Susana (Carol Abras).

Meanwhile, the patriarch of the Dionísio family (Perfeito Fortuna) and his wife, Norma (Selma Egrei), live a 40-year marriage that threatens to unravel when they reencounter past loves.
