Dusseldorf.
Düsseldorf Airport will not be on strike for the time being. Verdi has reached an agreement with the company Aviapartner. Around 700 employees are affected.

Düsseldorf Airport will not be on strike this Friday. This was confirmed by the Verdi union after an agreement with a private company. However, this agreement has nothing to do with the collective bargaining dispute in the public sector. According to Verdi, there will be strikes in Düsseldorf and Cologne in the coming weeks.

Verdi: “Strike in Düsseldorf in the coming weeks”

There is an agreement with the company Aviapartner, with which Verdi had negotiated. This is confirmed by Marvin Reschinsky, union secretary in the transport sector. “But that’s only related to Aviapartner,” he emphasizes. “This is independent of the ongoing collective bargaining round in the public sector.” The agreement with Aviapartner affects around 700 employees.

There will therefore be no strike in ground handling at Düsseldorf Airport today, Reschinsky continued. Neither Düsseldorf nor Cologne/Bonn are affected by today’s strikes in the public sector. “In the next few weeks, however, it is very likely that aviation security and public services will also go on strike in Düsseldorf and Cologne.”

Social plan required by collective agreement

Aviapartner’s license at Düsseldorf Airport expires on March 31st. The three successor companies in ground handling have announced that they will take over a large part of the workforce. Aviapartner is also cooperating with a successor, the company AAS, in order to keep jobs. However, that is not enough for Verdi. The union called for a social plan based on a collective agreement that would provide employees with financial security in the event of termination. Verdi threatened a strike by the workforce.
