An armed attack on a gathering of former police officers was registered this Tuesday in Cancun, Quintana Roo, state authorities and the National Guard reported.

The attack with bullets left a preliminary balance of two people dead and five injured who were taken to different clinics in that tourist destination.

Among the deceased is a former municipal police officer from Benito Juárez (Cancún) who allegedly was part of the repression of a feminist demonstration on November 9, 2020 in front of the City Hall during the administration of Mara Lezama, today the state’s President.

The armed attack was reported to the emergency services in an irregular ballroom located in the “El Milagro” neighborhood, where former agents and active policemen apparently met.

In that place, it was reported, a party enlivened by a musical group was being held, when hitmen opened fire on the attendees, without saying a word.

Witnesses said that the attackers were hooded individuals who carried long weapons.

Elements of the Municipal and Quintana Roo Police, as well as members of the Army and the National Guard arrived at the site.

Although a search operation for the attackers was implemented, so far no arrests have been made known.

Regarding the attack on the party room, the authorities have not officially reported the balance of the attack.

Direct attacks on people who are in their homes or businesses have been a constant in Cancun.

Just on Sunday five people were executed under this same modus operandi.
