★ Daniel Schmidt was born in Hamburg in 1984. His parents were the landlords of the cult pub “Elbschlosskeller” on Hamburger Berg. Daniel was already working here as a temporary worker at the age of 18 and took over the restaurant after the death of his father. He also did an apprenticeship as a carpenter.
The “Elbschlosskeller” is considered one of the toughest pubs in Germany. It was open continuously for 70 years until the start of the corona lockdowns.
★ In 2020 the pub was converted into a soup kitchen due to the pandemic. For this, the cult pub owner Daniel Schmidt and his newly founded association “Wer Wenn nicht Wir eV” received an award from the Red Cross for unselfish commitment.
Even before that, the “Elbschlosskeller” was a safe address for the homeless, junkies and alcoholics. St. Pauli serial killer Fritz Honka (1935 to 1998) was also a frequent sight here.

Daniel Schmidt has had a partner for years: Susanna Horn (52). The couple have a son together. In addition to the “Elbschlosskeller” they also run the “Motherfucker”, the “Muterei” and the “Bayernstüberl” in Hamburg’s Kiez.
In his free time, Daniel Schmidt likes to be out and about on the Elbe with his Jack Russel terriers.
