The actor made popular thanks to Peaky Blinderson Netflix, is now showingOppenheimer, by Christopher Nolan. This is not the first collaboration between the director and Cillian Murphy who here plays the lead role in the film dedicated to the inventor of the atomic bomb. As a good film buff, the actor also has a good knowledge of French cinema and cites La Haine, among “one of my favorite films”. “I showed it to my children recently, they were completely amazed”, tells Cillian Murphy to Konbini. When the film was released, he was only 19 years old. “I wasn’t even an actor yet. I just loved cinema”, he specifies. At the time, he devoted a real cult to the film by Mathieu Kassovitz, which he describes as “masterpiece” : “I had a La Haine t-shirt and everything. I bought a special edition of the DVD. I was obsessed with this film. And the music… Its soundtrack is absolutely incredible”he still enthuses.

Released in 1995, the film takes place in the Cité des Muguets, in the Paris suburbs. After a night of riots between local youth and the police, the residents wake up groggy. The day before, during an interrogation, Abdel Ichaha, 16, was injured by a police inspector. He has been in a coma ever since. Vinz, a young man from the city, reveals to his friends Saïd and Hubert that he found the revolver lost by a police officer during the riots and that he intends to use it if Abdel does not come out of the coma. Nearly thirty years after winning the Best Director Award at Cannes and receiving the César for Best Film, the film has today become cult.

Hate : a second film in project?

The film was released in theaters on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. As for Mathieu Kassovitz, he is regularly questioned about a potential sequel to Hate. In 2020, the director had also mentioned a musical comedy project. Three years later, the project has still not seen the light of day, nor has a second part, which was highly anticipated by fans.
