Cuba extends ban on leaving the country to all debtors: the amount does not matter!

The Cuban government expanded the prohibition on leaving the country for all debtors to the ONAT throughout the entire country, no matter the size of the debt, whether it is a thousand pesos or a million. A recent report from Guantánamo, in the east of the country, attests to the execution of this measure.

As reported by the specialist from the Taxpayer Services Department of the Tax Administration Office (ONAT) in Guantánamo, Yordenia Rodríguez Mengana, has expanded the scope of the measure that regulates or prevents the exit and entry of the country to taxpayers who do not comply with their tax obligations, regardless of the amount of debt.

Previously, this provision only applied to those who owed more than 50 thousand pesos, but now the agreement between ONAT and the Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Immigration (DIIE) has been modified to cover all non-compliant persons.

Rodríguez Mengana explained that since this regulation was implemented, based on Law 113 of the Tax System and Decree 308 Regulation of General Standards, the exit of 18 people from Guantánamo who owe more than 9 million 400 thousand pesos in total.

Of them, two have already paid their debts and can travel outside the country. In addition, the entry of a citizen who left the country before being notified of his debt of one million 500 thousand pesos has been regulated, and that he will have to cancel it in order to return to Cuba.

ONAT debtors cannot leave Cuba without paying debt

The specialist recalled in the diary We will win from Guantánamo, that there are other sanctions provided for in the law for tax evaders, such as fines, surcharges, seizures of bank accounts, closures of establishments and withdrawal of tax incentives.

At the national level, just over a month ago, the ONAT reported that, since 2022, it has prevented the departure of almost 600 people who have “significant debts” with the treasury, under an agreement with the DIIE of the Minint. . These debtor taxpayers will only be able to travel abroad when they settle their obligations with the tax entity.
