Cuban strangled in Nicaragua was wanted by the US justice system for credit card scams

According to David Alejandro Morcate, a Cuban murdered by a guard at a nightclub in Nicaraguaturned out to be an alleged fraudster wanted by US justice.

New details about this case indicate that it is linked to credit card scams, reported Telemundo 51.

The native of Santiago de Cuba died of suffocation after being neutralized moments after assaulting a woman, who turned out to be his girlfriend, identified by the name of 21-year-old Alison Mendoza. This event occurred last weekend in Managua, the capital of the Central American country.

A video of the incident shows the moment Morcate violently assaulted his partner. Alerted by the screams, the security guard and other men intervened to stop the attack. However, when applying a key to his neck, the force used resulted in the asphyxiation of the assailant.

The movement is known as “popo” or “mataleón”, which consists of the use of the arm to apply pressure to the opponent’s neck with the aim of restricting the flow of blood and air to the brain, which can cause rapid loss of knowledge.

The use of this technique can be very dangerous and deadly if it is not performed properly or if it is maintained for too long. For this reason, it is prohibited in sports contexts and even in police forces.

Morcate was a fugitive from US justice, who was looking for him for his involvement in a network of scams linked to the theft of credit card information.

The authorities had arrested him in 2020 in California along with three other members of a criminal organization that had been operating in stores since 2018 and then spent the money in casinos.

According to investigations, the defendants had stolen around $16,000 using devices known as skimmers at gas stations to obtain their victims’ credit card details and then clone them.

In 2021, Morcate arrived in Nicaragua, but his presence did not go unnoticed. His partner, Alison Mendoza, spoke on social networks revealing that she had been the victim of constant attacks and death threats from him, but she never reported the abuse to the local authorities.

Following the tragic incident, the Nicaraguan Police arrested the security guard, identified as Silvio Alberto Martínez. The authorities are investigating the case in depth to determine if he acted appropriately and if he was in his duty to protect the clients of the nightclub.
