Detroit Pistons achieve record that no team wants to break

DETROIT-. Los Pistons they made undesirable history in the NBA.

Detroit became the first team in league history to lose 27 consecutive games in a single season, falling 118-112 to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday.

“We have to be realistic when we analyze where we are,” Pistons coach Monty Williams acknowledged. “No one wants to be marked by something like that. At the end of the day this is my job, and as coaches we are evaluated by the results.”

The Nets defeated the Pistons in Brooklyn on Saturday, handing them their 26th consecutive loss, tying the record set by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010-11 and the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013-14.

Now, Detroit no longer shares the embarrassing brand. And he could still break the absolute record of losses in a row, of 28, set by the 76ers between the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

Detroit seems likely to at least match that mark. On Thursday they visit the Boston Celtics, leaders of the NBA.

Cam Johnson scored 24 points and Mikal Bridges added 21 to lead the Nets to victory. Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe each scored double doubles.

Cade Cunningham scored 41 points, but couldn’t prevent the Pistons’ debacle.

“A lot of this responsibility is entrusted to me on the court and in the locker room,” Cunningham said. “Every day I try to lead the team and I haven’t been successful enough at it. We have a record of 2-28. It’s just the right thing for me to talk about this and show my face.”

Dorian Finney-Smith’s 3-pointer capped a 13-point rally that put the Nets up 105-97 with 4:53 left. Cunningham missed a pair of free throws but responded with a 3-pointer and a three-point play, bringing Detroit within 109-106 with 1:54 remaining.

After Johnson’s triple, a pair of layups from Cunningham made the game 112-110. Finney-Smith hit a three-pointer that stretched the lead to 115-110 with 38 seconds left.

Alec Burks missed a triple and the Nets secured the victory from the penalty line, while the crowd chanted: “Sell the team!”

The Pistons started the game with a 22-8 run, which gave the crowd hope. But the Nets won 53-32 in the rest of the first half.
