While everyone was expecting a recession, the GDP data and many leading indicators say otherwise. All as estimated by our studies of the historical series and the analysis of the fundamentals of the economy. Powell himself in his last speech hinted that the FED was expecting a soft landing of the economy during 2023. Those who knew less than the President of the American Central Bank, on the other hand, were more certain of a recession. February 1 FED meeting: Are the markets ready to fly?
The odds in favor
A 0.25% rate hike is expected and taken for granted. During 2023 there could also be some other increases, but most likely the increases will be lower and much smaller in scope than those of 2022. What to wait for today?
A certain nervousness but then the closure should be positive. Tomorrow there will be the ECB, and therefore the uncertainties of the European markets in the coming days, the Wall Street Stock Exchange will take the lion’s share.
