In total, 44th Film Festival Max Ophüls Prize three ZDF co-productions of the small television game: The category “Best Feature Film” went to “Alaska” by Max Gleschinski. “Eismayer” by David Wagner won in the categories “Film Critics’ Award – Best Feature Film” and “Audience Award Feature Film”. The “Prize of the Ecumenical Jury” went to the tragic comedy “Franky Five Stars” by Birgit Moller.

“Alaska” was awarded “Best Feature Film”.

In feature filmAlaska” (Germany 2022) Kerstin (Christina Große) slowly finds her way back to life on a kayak tour on the Mecklenburg Lake District after the death of her father, who was in need of care. Just as she has fallen in love with Alima (Pegah Ferydoni), her brother Thomas (Karsten Antonio Mielke) shows up with his wife Nina (Milena Dreizig) because of the argument about the inheritance. But Kerstin has no intention of dealing with it.

Directed by Max Gleschinski, who also wrote the book. “Alaska” is a Woodwater Films production in co-production with ZDF/Das kleine Fernsehspiel, funded by Film- und Medienförderung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the BKM (Cultural Film Funding of the Federal Government). Jörg Schneider (ZDF/Das kleine Fernsehspiel) is the editor of ZDF.

“Eismayer” wins in the categories “Film Critics’ Award – Best Feature Film” and “Audience Award Feature Film”

The movie Eismayer” (Austria/Germany/France 2021) is about Lieutenant Charles Eismayer (Gerhard Liebmann), who is the most feared instructor in the Austrian army. Married to Christina Eismayer (Julia Koschitz) and father of a small son, he leads a double life, because in truth he is gay. When the young Mario Falak (Luka Dimić) starts working for him and is open about his homosexuality, the two fatefully crash into each other. “Eismayer” is based on the true love, life and suffering story of Charles Eismayer and Mario Falak, who after coming out were the first gay couple in guard uniform to say yes in an Austrian barracks.

Directed by David Wagner, who also wrote the book. “Eismayer” is a production of Golden Girls Filmproduktion in cooperation with ORF Film/TV agreement in co-production with ZDF/Das kleine Fernsehspiel in cooperation with ARTE, funded by Filmfonds Wien, Austrian Film Institute, FISA – Filmstandort Austria. The editors are Lucia Haslauer (ZDF/Das kleine Fernsehspiel), Olaf Grunert, Martin Gerhard (ZDF/ARTE) as well as Klaus Lintschinger and Susanne Spellitz (ORF).

“Franky Five Stars” wins the “Ecumenical Jury Prize”

The tragic comedy “Franky Five Stars” (Germany 2021) is about 25-year-old Franky (Lena Urzendowsky), who is somehow different. Sometimes closed, sometimes out of control, she struggles with the simplest things in life. She only feels understood by her best friend Katja (Meryem Ebru Öz). When everything gets to be too much for Franky, she checks into a “hotel” that only exists in her head. Four completely different personalities live here, who take turns taking over Franky’s actions in the real world: Ms. Franke, Ella, Leni and Frank are part of Franky, but have their own interests and needs. While Franky just wants to get her life together, her alter egos have their own goals. They want love – or finally sex. When Katja’s new friend Hasi (Cino Djavid) moves in for a few days in the shared apartment, Franky’s personalities become independent.

Director was Birgit Möller, who also wrote the book together with Knut Mierswe. “Franky Five Star” is a production of Angst Panda!
