How does a good song come about? And how does music manage to hit, touch and activate? The young participants of the song contest “Your song for ONE WORLD!” have shown: What counts is a strong message that arouses emotions – and a melody that sticks in your head. Until June 15, 2023, 10 to 25 year olds can www.eineweltsong.de submit self-composed songs that deal musically with global issues. They can also get help with writing and composing on the website. “I can only recommend to all young people: join in! It’s worth it and motivates,” says Hari Sue, winner of the previous round.

Participate, win and set an example

Young people from Germany and many countries in the Global South can let their thoughts, feelings and ideas for ONE WORLD run free musically at the competition. Whether solo, as a band, choir or school class, whether rap, pop or rock – all formations and genres are welcome. In her song “Qui s’élèvera”, for example, Hari Sue describes how animals are deprived of their habitat and people are exploited through clearing and deforestation. She asks, “Who will raise their voice to end all the damage?” With her moving lines she has reached people internationally.

After the submission deadline on June 15, 2023, a specialist jury will decide in a multi-stage process on the ONE WORLD song, which will be the anthem of the next round of the school competition on development policy. An essential criterion: the submitted song must be written and composed by yourself.

Winning song on EINE WORLD album

The best songs are professionally produced in the studio and appear on the brand new EINE WELT album. All studio productions are accompanied by musical coaching. The first-place EINE WELT song also wins a professional music video. “Visibility is a central part of the song contest. Young people have thoughts and feelings that need to be heard more,” says Nicola Fürst-Schuhmacher from Engagement Global. In addition, the jury awards several recognition prizes in the form of cash prizes as well as the three special prizes “Africa”, “Cooperation in Partnership” and “Best Lyrics”.

In a public user voting, a favorite song can also be voted on, with the song with the most votes winning the audience award. So even those who don’t submit their own songs are in demand.
