Umy copy of first collection of works by William Shakespeare – known, at least – was on display, this Monday, at the Guildhall Library, in London, United Kingdom, to mark the 400th anniversary of its publication.

The book is dated November 8, 1623, just seven years after the death of the British playwright. It was only on display, however, this Monday, promising the institution to show it again throughout the year.

The Guildhall Library is where the folio editors, Shakespeare’s friends Henry Condell and John Heminges, lived. in front is the cemetery where they were buried.

In it are contained 36 piecesincluding 18 That Haven’t Been Published Beforesuch as ‘Twelfth Night’, ‘Measure for Measure’, ‘Macbeth’, ‘Julius Caesar’ and ‘The Tempest’.

“Without the first folio, we might have lost most of Shakespeare’s heritage. The copy we have here is considered one of the best in the world. It is absolutely complete. Nothing was invented from another copy. There is nothing in facsimile. A little piece is missing from the corner of a page which has been fixed, but other than that it’s a fantastic copy“, the head librarian of the Guildhall Library, Peter Ross, told AFP.
