Hispanic shot in front of Auto Zone would have been caught in crossfire

The partner of a Hispanic man who was shot and killed in the parking lot of an Auto Zone in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and who was also shot in the altercation will face criminal charges.

An investigation by the district attorney revealed that the event, which dates back to June 3, 2023, was classified as an exchange between two groups that turned violent.

This is what the investigation revealed:

  • The fatality was identified as Edgar González, 22 years old.
  • His partner in the Kia car, involved in the event and who faces criminal charges, was identified as Joshua Ortíz, 17, who was also shot on that occasion.
  • An individual, who was not identified by the authorities, was the one who fired the murder weapon, but his action was classified as self-defense.
  • And it is that both González and Ortíz got involved in a lawsuit with a family aboard a Honda in the self-service of a Taco Bell restaurant located half a block from the Auto Zone. There the defendant drew his weapon in a threatening tone, but did not fire, which caused the driver of the Honda to reverse until he crashed and left the vehicle inoperable.
  • Immediately afterwards, according to the prosecution, the family fled on foot to the parking lot of the Auto Zone where they hid from Ortíz and González. They were picked up by another relative, with people inside the vehicle, when the alleged attackers realized they went back to look for a buya and Ortíz drew his weapon.
  • The rescuer of the family of three, who is close to them, also drew his service weapon and, according to investigators, detonated himself in self-defense, so he will not face charges.

Ortíz turned himself in to authorities and faces multiple charges.
