This Thursday, January 26, 2023, a Spanish national who came to visit Algeria was arrested in possession of the sum of 800,000 euros at Algiers airport.
According to the Arabic-language media Ennahar, the traveler was arrested this week while trying to smuggle this large sum of money into Algerian territory illegally.
As a reminder, when entering the national territory, all travelers are obliged to declare their currencies to the customs services if the amounts exceed €1,000.

According to the same source, the traveler who was trying to illegally transport the sum of 800,000 euros was at the center of an internal investigation, before having to answer for his actions in court.
He was therefore presented before the court of Dar El Beida this Thursday, January 26, 2023. From then on, he was charged with “violation of the exchange regulations and the legislation relating to the movement of capital to and from the foreigner “.
It should be noted that the respondent explained that his visit was of a touristic nature and that this sum would have been used to discover the Algerian territory. The accused explained that his “intentions were good”, and that he intended to limit himself to tourism. He therefore denied any accusation of illicit currency transfer.
The public prosecutor has cracked down on him, and demanded the payment of a fine which amounts to twice the amount seized, pending the verdict.
